CISS 300 - Introduction to Information Systems Security (starts June 11th)

  • Prerequisite: None
  • Lecture Hours: Online (https://d2l.losrios.edu).  The course website is open.                                                    
  • Course Description:  This course provides an introduction to network-based and Internet-based security applications and standards. Topics include cryptography, security protocols, network security applications, encryption, hash functions, digital signatures, viruses and key exchange.
  • Required Textbooks:
    •  Mark Ciampa (2010). Security Awareness: Applying Practical Security in Your World, 3rd Edition.  ISBN-10: 1435454146 or ISBN-13: 9781435454149. 2010.
  • Orientation: Online--it will be available in D2L (https://d2l.losrios.edu).  I will send an email to students, who are enrolled in this course, the first week of school.  If a student does not receive my email I recommend s/he email me ASAP at parksl@crc.losrios.edu.  I sent students an introduction email on Saturday, June 9th.  Students should have access to the course's website (https://d2l.losrios.edu).  
  • Final Exam: Saturday, August 4, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., in BS-153  (identity verification required)

HCIT 112 - Networking and Health Information Exchange for Health Care IT Professionals (starts June 11th) -- CLOSED to the general public (HCIT students only)

  • Course Description:  This course is designed to give IT Professionals an overview of data mobility.  Students will learn about hardware infrastructure, Internet protocols, nationwide health care information systems, and other nationwide approaches. This course is designed for students who have been accepted in the Health Care IT Workforce Grant Program.
  • Required Textbooks: None.  Students will have to download some reading material every week instead.
